The ever-changing environment of public, private, and
nonprofit sectors is due in large part to the increased blurring of the
roles our society assigns to public, private and nonprofit
organizations. Today,
public and nonprofit organizations are expected to carry out their
mission of service by successfully partnering with the private sector
and other public and nonprofit organizations. This requires that managers in the public and nonprofit arenas
meet both the public’s and business sector’s expectations for
efficiency and effectiveness while maintaining traditional values
associated with public services such as fairness, equal access to
services, public accountability, public participation in decision
making—values our society does not typically require of the private
sector. To successfully lead a public or nonprofit organization in this
new environment, administrators must develop superior executive, public
policy, and resource management expertise. The program further develops competencies in these three areas:
Executive Development Emphasis

enhanced by options relating to performance measurement, quality
improvement and management in a global context.

evaluate policies and programs in public/nonprofit organizations in an
economic, social and legal context.
Resource Development

manage effectively the human, financial, technological and physical
resources of diverse organizations.
